Julius, your reference to Uranus eating his son is very apt at this time.
In the conservative movement, Stephan Harper ate the movement that was created by Preston Manning then went on to implement orthodox solutions that delivered the housing crisis, and financial crisis. He centralized power in the Prime Ministers Office making it possible for Justin Trudeau to do what he is doing now. Stephen having eaten the Reform Party did not deliver any reform.
Justin came to power promising to reform the electoral process, and instead gave us Woke Politics. He presented himself as a feminist, and his swearing in ceremony was a tribute to the indigenous contribution to Canada, but the his first act was to get rid of the Female Indigenous Justice Minister because she was not willing to sign off on SNC Lavalin.
It is this ability of the elites to subvert every attempt to reform and bring justice that scares me the most. Real Reform, leading to Real Justice is absolutely required but instead we have Uranus eating Saturn, then Saturn in turn in eating his own children.
My hope & wish is that somehow we can find the path that leads to real reform and a new path to real peace.
I remember having great hopes for the Reform Party, having grown up with Preston Manning's voice on the radio almost every day -- it was such a disappointment how it fizzled as Reform was absorbed. Your description of Stephen Harper as Saturn fits perfectly!
It would be very interesting to be able to pick Preston Manning's brain to understand what exactly happened, and get his take on how to extract ourselves out of the current situation.
On AI, it feels like the US and China are trapped in a kind of Thucydides Trap, in which each is pouring vast funds into building a centrally controlled AI out of fear of the other building it. A bit like the race to build the atomic bomb.
Nor are they the only ones working on this. It's a nasty catch 22, because you almost have to build it in order to protect your country from both malicious state or private actors that might use it against you (i.e. social media manipulation, attacking energy grids, for use during war, etc). But once built, it's only a matter of time until it falls into the wrong hands.
Definitely no easy solutions -- I definitely prefer this leap into AI to happen under Trump, rather than Biden, in the hope that their current concerns about an out-of-control administrative state motivates them to put some guardrails in place to limit the ways in which it can be abused. But even if they do set some guardrails and dont' abuse it themselves, no president rules forever...
I think the technocracy referred to is more than the development of AI.
Having the richest men in the country who also happen to be in the tech sphere determine which way the country goes can create its own problems.
Some of Trumps actions …. For eg Implying that white males are the sole inheritors of the new power emerging in the US is going to lead to different kinds of issues.
This is an excellent piece that has helped me understand the world order and the goals of the administration better. Thank you so much. I’m very sorry for everything that I seen in Canada.
WOW... you bring the pieces of this story together in a way I've seen from no other journalist or analyst. Truly impressive Julius... dare I say brilliant. I had many of the pieces but not the perspective you've offered here. It all makes so much more sense.
I subscribed recently and am very glad I did. You have made my list of must reads. Thank you.
Hello Julius - your articles strike to the core. Again, I have spread it as far and wide as I am able and have asked others to do the same. Remarkable.
Another force at work to consider - religion. Islamism is a powerful and expanding totalitarian influence. Will it eventually be made docile by the militant secularism that has become dominant in western countries along with China and, it seems, Russia? Tom Holland's book Dominion asserts that Christian values have been imposed (ex slavery becoming unacceptable) and are infiltrating islam.
It shocks me every time I see photos of places like Afghanistan, Iran, etc, from before the 1970s, or think about how Beruit was considered the "Paris of the Middle East" until 1975 -- each country was quite open and had a thriving unique cultural identity, yet all that has been wiped away by an advancing tide of a deeply intolerant strain of Islam. In some ways it almost mirrors the advance of the fundamentalist woke culture that is sweeping through Western culture. I'll check out Tom Holland's book 🙏
New subscriber because of this insightful article. May I offer a hypothesis for you to ponder? As a baby boomer, I have seen almost all of these developments as they occurred. An observation - WWII saw great numbers of women - mothers - go to work in non-traditional jobs. Many continued out of the home employment post war, and in fact were a driving force for the “lib” movement and single mother households. The boys that were born and raised in this environment seemingly had less male influence and interaction. Are we seeing a consequence of that lack in them as well as subsequent generations the tendency towards less masculine traits and more expression of feminine characteristics? Your perspective would be welcomed.
I agree -- I think this is one of the factors that has played a huge role. I suspect that changes in social structure have had massive impacts on hormonal expression (there's quite a bit of research documenting this in other mammals, including primates).
There are currently a lot of theories trying to explain the phenomenon you describe through the lens of chemical pollution (and I don't discount that this may also be playing a role), but I suspect changes in social structure and the impact this has on hormone expression is as important, if not more so. This would be an interesting topic for a future deep dive!
Nancy Pearcey's book "The Toxic War on Masculinity" does an excellent job of breaking down the impacts of shifts in family structure and the traditional role of fathers (and mothers) from the industrial revolution to present.
Thank you for this insightful and inspiring piece. I do hope that President Trump marks the start of a new golden age that will Make America Great Again.

Do you give any credence to the possibility that Musk and Trump are ushering in a Technocracy?

Wow, the way you linked in the pivotal role of the stupid climate hoax really hit home for me. Thank you for this long essay.
